Creating Space for What's to Come
Several years ago, I was on a mission to de-clutter my entire home. I was frustrated that I could not find things quickly and most of all, I had way too much “stuff”. I managed to complete that job and was very happy with the results. I hired my friend Amy who is a Professional Organizer (highly recommended!) and for the first time, I knew where everything was. Shelves and counters were de-cluttered and it felt good to be in my space.

As a result, my life also became clearer. I have always been a big believer that your physical space can definitely impact your emotional/mental state and I did notice a shift. Since then, every spring I go through the “spring cleaning” itch and de-clutter a few areas that I had let go over the course of the year. This year, though, I realized something I never saw before. Everything was in its place, but there was no extra space available for anything else. Although I like my space, it occurred to me that if I want to attract more in my life, I have got to create space for it.

Where in your life would you like more of something? Or, perhaps something different? And, how does your space reflect where you are at in your life? During these unpredictable times, we often cling to the things we can control and our own space is a great place to start. Putting a focus on creating space in your physical environment will actually help you get in action in your own life.

So, I am currently on my next mission – to create more space for what’s to come – not just de-cluttering shelves and counters, but creating totally cleared out ones. The process I put into action consists of two simple questions. The first question I ask is “Do I love this?” If the answer is yes, I keep it. It’s important to surround yourself by things you love. If the answer is no, I move onto the next question, “Do I need this right now?” And, if the answer is yes, I keep it. If the answer is no, I dump it, give it away or store it. I figure after 6-9 months, if I don’t need it, I can then remove it from storage. It gives me the freedom to still access it, but moves it out of the way.

As we near the end of spring, I ask you to stop and take inventory of your physical space and notice if there is a correlation to where you are in your own life. If you’d like to attract more, consider creating more space and begin to see what opens up.

Cheers,
Jean M. DiGiovanna

Monthly Workout: Creating Space
Take on the following questions and process below for this month’s workout:
  1. On a scale of 1-10, how satisfied are you with your life? In what areas would you like to have more of, or be different?
  2. On a scale of 1-10, how satisfied are you with your physical space? What correlation do you notice between the previous rating and this one?
  3. What area(s) in your home could you de-clutter and/or create more space in?
  4. Are you willing to take action on clearing it out? What will it take?
  5. If you are willing, pick one area and set aside 1-2 hrs to de-clutter and clear out. Refer to the questions in the article to help start the process.
  6. Repeat for the other areas and begin to notice any shifts in your own energy and what you attract in your life.
  7. If you would like additional support in clearing out your space, feel free to give Amy at Sacred Havens a call at 617-522-6151.
I look forward to hearing what you experience! (please e-mail me at jdigi@thinkpeople.com)

Creating Space

Sometimes, we are not aware of connections that exist.
How does our space impact our feelings, actions and what we resist?
When we stop and reflect to see what is so,
we begin to uncover things we did not know.

There is a strong connection between your space and your life.
When you make the commitment to clear out your space,
you will begin to attract what you want at just the perfect pace.
