Greetings! Aug/Sept 2009

As the summer winds down and fall comes our way, it's natural for us to go within. In this newsletter, Don't go it Alone, I invite you to seek out assistance from others and allow them to contribute to you so that we all get to share our unique gifts and talents.

If, at any time, you would like to unsubscribe, simply go to the end of the newsletter.

Don't go it Alone
Whenever I meet someone new who is intrigued by what I do, I inevitably get the same question: “How did you get into this? How did you get to be where you are?” And, the consistent answer is, back in the mid-90’s I hired a coach. Even prior to that I participated in growth and development seminars that were taught by some of the most powerful coaches and facilitators I have seen. Out of attending those, I experienced breakthroughs that allowed me to put my past in my past and live in the present with freedom and joy. Along with on-going coaching and accountability, I was able to truly create and generate the future I desired. But, it wasn’t always easy.

It started with a strong commitment and desire to change. Prior to that, it began with a high tolerance for the status quo. I was dissatisfied and frustrated with not knowing what I wanted and where I was supposed to be. As I recall that time, it got me thinking about how and when society truly changes. It doesn’t change when things are good. It changes when things get so bad that people feel the pain personally and can no longer tolerate it. I can’t tell you how many people who have suffered and survived a life threatening illness who have said to me, “I would never wish this on anyone, but it made me become more aware in my life, it changed my perspective, it made me eat better, exercise more, put my health first.” It woke them up and forced them to change.

I would never wish that on anyone and I am here to tell you there is another way. There is another path to freedom and fulfillment. But, it first takes a willingness and desire to change. It’s ok not to know how to change. What’s more important is that you are open and willing. I would not be where I am today if it were not for the teachers, coaches, mentors and healers I have worked with. I could not do it alone. And, if there was anyone who thought they could, it was me! Having grown up with four older brothers who were all close in age and I came along four years later (the pleasant surprise I like to remind myself ;-) it was not always an easy ride.

While most people assume they must have taken care of me, well, let’s just say that didn’t start to happen until we were adults and comfortable in our own skin. I had to fend for myself. I learned how to become independent at a young age and I was one tough cookie! Did those skills help me along the way? Absolutely! Did they also hinder me along the way? Absolutely! But, it wasn’t until I began my path of growth and development through attending seminars and working with coaches, mentors and healers that I learned how to tap into those skills to my benefit. I also learned to recognize when they no longer served me. I became more aware, more conscious and discovered I had a choice. Before that, I was living on automatic pilot. I was living in the body of a 26 yr old, but acting a lot of the time like a 5 yr old. Life was ok, but it surely wasn’t great!

When we want to improve our home, we hire contractors, electricians, landscapers. When we start a business, we may hire a web designer, bookkeeper or virtual assistant, yet when it comes to our personal well-being, we don’t often go outside to seek assistance. Your life and well-being is what buys that house or inspires that business so why not hire the appropriate people to help you grow, prosper and thrive? A seed is not a plant without soil, water and the sun. It’s either growing or dying. As Dr Wayne Dyer says, “Don’t die with the music still left inside you.” Make a commitment to grow and to seek the support to get there. It may be from a close friend, an acquaintance or a professional. Either way, going it alone will only get you so far. Recognizing the power of support and collaboration will move you beyond your wildest dreams!

Cheers,
Jean M. DiGiovanna

Monthly Workout: Don't go it Alone
Take on the following questions and process below for this month’s workout:
  1. Think of an area of your life you are currently tolerating, frustrated with or dissatisfied in.
  2. What do you most need right now regarding that area?
  3. Who could help provide that? A friend, mentor, coach, healer, therapist, some other professional?
  4. Make a commitment to call them up and seek out assistance. Regardless of whether you get the assistance, sharing what you are up to will make a huge difference.
  5. People want to help and serve. Allow them the opportunity to share their gifts with you so that you can share your gifts with the world.
I look forward to hearing what you experience! (please e-mail me at jdigi@thinkpeople.com)

Don't go it Alone

Sometimes, it seems much easier to go it alone.
You know what to do, so you do it on your own.
But there is something available when we seek from outside,
When we let others in and put aside our pride.
We grow in ways we never imagined. We achieve so much more.
We experience joy and fulfillment and feel our life begin to soar.
