Taking the Big Leap this Year
This is quite a special day we get to experience this year. I was intrigued with the traditions around Leap Year and I came to discover some interesting facts. Did you know that in 5th century Ireland, St Bridget complained to St Patrick about women having to wait so long for a man to propose marriage, so they allowed women to propose on this one day in February during leap year? That was quite a leap for women to take given the strict rules of courtship at the time. Scotland buckled down and passed a law in 1288 that any man that declined a proposal in a leap year must pay a fine. “The fine could range from a kiss to payment for a silk dress or a pair of gloves.” Hey, at least it was not for nothing ;-)
Nowadays, women proposing marriage might not be considered a big leap, but it’s still quite a few large steps. The real question is, “when was the last time you took a big leap in your life?” The kind of leap that scares the bejeepers out of you; The kind of leap that gets your adrenaline going to the point where you feel sheer excitement and fear at the same time.
I recall a time years ago when I heard Guy Kiyosaki speak at a conference about change and he mentioned that if you want major transformation and shifts to happen you can’t stay on the same curve as you have been on. You actually have to jump to another curve. In other words, you have to take the leap. Taking the leap could mean leaving your comfy career and leaping into one that could light you up everyday. It could mean getting out of a relationship that has been draining you for a long time, or finally diving in and making the commitment. It could mean finally saying NO to everyone else and YES to what you truly want. Taking the leap toward what fulfills you is an incredibly courageous step, but who are you NOT to take it!
Recall those activities you used to thoroughly enjoy and are no longer doing. Recall the times you wished you had done or said something and didn’t. Recall the days, weeks and months you have talked about wanting to change, but have not.
Take the leap this year toward what you truly want. Give yourself the permission to leap into the life you desire, the life you divinely deserve, the life that has been waiting for you. Don’t wait for the next leap year – this one is calling your name!
Cheers,
Jean M. DiGiovanna
Monthly Workout: Taking the Big Leap this Year
Take on the following questions and process below for this month’s workout:
- Write a list of all the thing(s) you have been procrastinating, desiring deeply or not wanting anymore in your life. What are the things you’ve always wanted to try, do, be or have?
- Pick the one on the list that either most drains you or most energizes you. What would a big leap look like for you regarding this item?
- Now, go even farther out and describe an even bigger leap one could take. Challenge yourself even more and consider a totally different curve you could leap onto.
- What would it take to make that big leap?
- What’s the greatest fear you have in making the big leap?
- How could you break down your big leap into smaller baby jumps?
- What support will you need?
- Make a commitment and intention to achieve this and seek out the support you need before the next leap year creeps upon us!
Know that by following your deepest desires and doing what brings you alive, you will always be fully supported.
I look forward to hearing what you experience! (please e-mail me at jdigi@thinkpeople.com)
Taking the Big Leap this Year
It’s easy to stay in one place, repeat life day after day.
It is comfortable, familiar and predictable.
But, is life meant to be lived in status quo with everything you desire at bay?
Take this special year to step outside of your comfort zone.
Take life by the horns and make that big leap into the unknown.
For as soon as you make the commitment, you will never be alone.
