Don't you wish Summer would last forever, but without the harsh humidity?!! It's amazing how we tolerate the humidity in hopes the dry heat will arrive shortly :-) This months's working is about eliminating those things we tolerate in our work and life so that we can retain our energy for the things that fulfill us.
Summer is often a time to play and explore, so If you are interested in something a little different that taps into your creativity, I invite you to check out ThinkPeople's Summer Workshops, Creative Poetry Writing for the "Non-Poet"! and Create Your Own Soul Cards. Details are below.

Eliminate Your Tolerations
So often, we walk through life tolerating or "putting up" with so many things. We are told "just live with it!" or "that's the way it is". Yes, there are some things we have to live with in order to live in this country, but I'm referring to things we do have control over. Those things we no longer have to "live with" if we choose not to.
Tolerations are like small pebbles in our shoe that we can feel when we walk, but we can still walk. In fact, many of us have walked around with these small stones for a long time. After a while, we hardly notice the pain they actually cause. We get so used to the pain that we think it's normal.
What have you been "living with" or tolerating in your life? It could be as small as your child not cleaning their room to the extra pounds you don't care for around your waste to how you've been treated at work to the relationship that doesn't quite work anymore to the job that no longer gives you energy to the income you are longing for and know you deserve.
Each toleration in our life drains our energy everytime we think about it. Each time you look at your cluttered basement and think, "one of these days I have to get to this", it takes a piece of your energy away. Each time we put ourselves in situations or with people we know are bad or unhealthy for us, we are depleting our energy and aliveness. Suddenly, our reservoir is empty and we no longer have energy for the things we really enjoy.
As you spend the rest of this summer, I ask you to think of yourself as a body of energy and notice each time you give a piece of your energy away when you continue to tolerate something or someone. Instead of believing "that's the way it is", ask yourself, "What's one small step I can take today, or one thing I need to communicate to eliminate this toleration in my life once and for all?"
In due time, you will begin to feel more energetic, alive and fulfilled because YOU have chosen to live the life YOU want by taking a stand for who you are and what is important to you. It's time to stop tolerating and start living fully without compromise!
Cheers,
Jean M. DiGiovanna
Monthly Workout: Eliminating your Tolerations
Pick an area of your life that is unfulfilling or currently frustrating you.
Using this area as a context, explore the following questions below:
- What is it that you are tolerating or "putting up with" in this area?
- How much does this toleration deplete your energy and aliveness?
- What, ideally, would you like have happen in this area? How would you like it to be?
- What would you need to give up or let go of once and for all to have what you really want?
- What might you need to take on once and for all to have what you really want?
- Are you willing to give up or take those things on?
- What is one action or a new practice that will have you eliminate this toleration from your life?
Take on this action and begin to notice what shifts in you and those people and situations around you.
I look forward to hearing what you experience! (please e-mail me at jdigi@thinkpeople.com)
Poem of the Month: Tolerations
There are many things we put up with in life,
and we begin to believe "it's ok".
The longer we tolerate them, the longer we stay.
Our energy is drained and our mood is strained,
until one day,we open our eyes and take a stand,
to stop this pattern and live the life we demand.
