Trust in the Process Called "Life"
Ahh, that wonderful word, TRUST! It can bring up so many emotions in people, but one thing remains the same – it is extremely hard to do! And, continue to do in the face of life’s challenges, struggles and endeavors. The trust I am referring to is not always the trust we may place in another person, but trusting in life itself, in the face of whatever is going on, trusting that it will all work out.

Just when I think I’ve mastered trust, I continue to be tested again. It is as if someone up there is saying “She hasn’t gotten the lesson yet. Let’s keep putting situations in front of her that continue to test if she can REALLY trust!”

So, what is trust? When we place trust in someone else or something else, what are we actually doing? What does it require? When we trust, we are virtually giving ourselves over to that person or thing we are trusting and it can often feel like we are “out of control”. It really takes something deep within you to fully trust. A strong belief, “knowing” and confidence that it will all work out. A blind faith that you will get what you need and all is well. When you have done everything you can and everything else is out of your control or power, there is something freeing about giving yourself over, letting go and trusting that the process will takes its course whether you do something or not.

Think about times in your life when you just “knew” that something was going to turn out fine. You had a knowing and possibly not sure how or why. There was no proof, but you had a strong belief that it would work out. Some may call this “intuition” and it can show up in many different ways. When you trust in this “knowing”, it gives you the added confidence that all is well. The challenge is to let go and believe it to be true!

There is an incredible power when we truly believe in something and trust that it will work. It gives us confidence and reassurance that we don’t question. So often, we look for things that could immediately go wrong. The holes we haven’t accounted for, the failures that we project out way before we attempt to take on what we desire. When we think the worst and fail to trust that it will work out, we are already behind the eight ball! I love the quote by Henry Ford “If you think you can or think you can’t, you are right”. It takes courage and blind faith to trust in life itself. When we are able to give ourselves over, once and for all, and believe it will all be ok, the rewards can be priceless!

May you trust in the process called Life!

Monthly Workout: Trust
Explore the following questions below for this month’s workout:
  1. What is it to trust?
  2. When have you found it most challenging to trust? What is the biggest barrier to trusting fully and completely?
  3. Pick a challenging situation you are dealing with now in your work or life. Imagine, for a moment, what would be possible if you trusted completely that it would work out. Stay with this possibility for a moment. Feel it in your bones!
  4. What did you experience? What would it take to bring that experience into existence presently, on a daily basis?
  5. What would you need to give up or take on to fully experience unconditional trust? Make a commitment to yourself to practice giving up or taking on what you determined and notice what transpires for you.
I look forward to hearing what you experience! (please e-mail me at jdigi@thinkpeople.com)

Poem of the Month: TRUST IN THE PROCESS

Trust is not easy to do.
To step out of the norm and into the new.
When we take the leap, it is toward the unknown,
A test of blind faith. You are not alone.

When we take the plunge, and dive into the pool,
Life is there to support us and trust will soon become our jewel.
