Spring Cleaning
There's something about spring that lifts my energy. The sun is warmer, the birds are chirping, the days are longer and the flowers are blooming. My motivation is turned outward. I feel refreshed and more energized. It's no wonder where we get the term "Spring Cleaning". Clearing out the old. Bringing in the new. I have to admit, I go through my spurts of motivation around spring cleaning, but I recognize how important it is, not just in our living space, but in our lives.
What would it be like to do a spring cleaning of YOUR life? To get rid of and let go of those things that drain us once and for all and to only surround ourselves by people and things that energize us? A very simple concept, but not necessarily easy to implement!
It really requires awareness of where your energy is and commitment to follow through. It's no different than recognizing how much your basement or garage has lost all assemblance of organization and has now become the central dumping ground for things you don't quite know what to do with yet. And then, making a commmitment to clear out, declutter and organize, so that your energy isn't zapped everytime you look at it or think about it. Sound familiar?
When you think about the areas of your life, how much of your energy feels zapped? As human beings, it's amazing how much tolerance we have with people and things in our life that no longer serve us or make us happy, and we continue to allow them in our life.
I challenge you this Spring to not only take an area of your home and make the commitment to clear it out once and for all, but to also pick an area of your life where you have felt drained, unmotivated and de-energized and make the commitment to either forgive, accept or let go of it once and for all. And, remember, you don't have to do it all on your own. Seek out and ask for the support you need.
You deserve to feel fully energized and fully alive in your life! As Howard Thurman states, "What the world needs is people who have come alive!"
Cheers

Monthly Workout: Spring Cleaning
Explore the following processes and questions below for this month's workout:
- Take a walk through your home and stop in each room. As you glance around the room, ask yourself "What do I absolutely love in this room? and "What do I absolutely need in this room to function properly?" Now, imagine only those things in the room. How much is actually left? Notice how much you surround yourself with things you don't really need, nor love. If you notice there is a lot left, then great for you!!
- Take one action per room to clear out that which you no longer need, nor love and only have items in the room that serve you and make you feel good.
- Now, take an area of your life that feels draining to you. What or who drains your energy? What's one step you could take to minimize that in your life? This may require accepting it, forgiving someone or something or letting it go in your life. It may mean consciously spending less time with someone in your life who drains you.
- Take that one action on and notice your energy level. What are you now able to do or feel?
- What is one thing that you love to do that energizes you or people you love to be with who give you energy? Take one action a day to do one thing that energizes you or surround yourself with those people who energize you and notice the shift in your energy.
- Repeat steps #3-#5 for another area of your life.
I look forward to hearing what you experience! (please e-mail me at jdigi@thinkpeople.com)
Poem of the Month: Spring Cleaning
There are things and people that make us feel great,
and things and people that drain and berate.
What's in our control is how we respond.
The response is not always desirable, nor following the grain,
but in the end, you are the one left feeling the pain.
Take a step back and recognize what's so,
and choose your response to continue, forgive, accept or let go.
It's amazing how much, now, your energy will flow.
