Greetings! May 2005

Hope you enjoyed Memorial Day Weekend! At least we got to see the sun!! This month's workout is about the people we meet in our lives and what they have to teach us. I invite you to take this opportunity to reflect on those in your life and what they each offer to you.

I will be delivering a public workshop that I have run several times for organizations and at conferences called Attracting what you want...Effortlessly! on Thursday, June 23, 2005 from 6:30pm - 9:00pm. If this interests you, more details are at http://www.thinkpeople.com/workshops.html or below under Workshops.

If, at any time, you would like to unsubscribe, simply go to the end of the newsletter.

Enjoy!

With Each Person, a New Lesson
Ever wonder why certain people come into your life at certain times? I truly believe in synchronicity and that there really is no such thing as coincidence. Every person that crosses our path is truly on our path for a reason. Some stay with us for a very long time and others walk with us and then depart, but regardless of their length of stay, there is something for us to learn. There are those who bring us joy and fulfillment, and then others who may bring us sadness and hurt. What we share, though, in each interaction are experiences, and out of those life and work experiences, we learn our life's lessons.

Sometimes those lessons aren't always pleasant or easy to take, but they are just as rich and valuable to learn. Ah, the wonderful quote comes to mind that I read once in a Reader's Digest, "Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want." We always experience something. The true nugget of gold, though, comes from recognizing what we are learning through the experience and applying it on our path to help us grow and thrive.

No matter what the experience is, from our highest joy to deepest sorrow, if we can take a moment and reflect on what there is to see and learn about ourselves, then we are truly taking advantage of what life has to offer and we are fully living!

Every person that comes into our life is like a mirror that shows us who we are, who we are not and who we want to be. There is such richness in the interactions and experiences, but we don't often see it, recognize it, or even take the time to value it. We live such rushed lives with so much to think about that we may not even understand how it all fits together and what each person in our life is truly there for.

Take a moment to reflect on the people in your life, those who have been there for a long time, and those who may have come onto your path and have left. Look to see what they are teaching you or have taught you about yourself. No matter what the relationship, each of them have taught you something about yourself. Notice the gifts they are here to give you and appreciate the learning no matter how wonderful or difficult it is. It is often in the recognition of the gift, that we are free to move on.

Cheers,
Jean M. DiGiovanna

Monthly Workout: Recognizing our Lessons
Explore the following tools and techniques below for this month's workout:
  1. Make a list of the people who have been in your life for a long time. Now, add to that list those who have come into your life recently, and those who have come in and departed.
  2. Scan your list and put an asterisk next to those who bring you, or brought you the greatest joy and those who bring you or brought you the most frustrationn or pain (remember, they both bring you alive in some way!!)
  3. For each person who has an asterisk, answer the following questions:
    • What have they taught you about yourself, or had you see about yourself?
    • What is the gift in your interaction with them?
    • What reason do you think they have come into your life for?
  4. What do you experience now out of doing this exercise? What do you now recognize or see for yourself?
  5. What will you take from this exercise and apply in your life as you continue to deepen your current relationships and meet new people?
I look forward to hearing what you experience! (please e-mail me at jdigi@thinkpeople.com)

Poem of the Month: The People That Come Into Our Lives

There is richness in every interaction.
But, we may not always recognize the jewels.
There is learning in each of our relationships.
But, we may not always recognize the lesson.

Raising our level of awareness requires rigor,
stepping away from it to recognize what is really there.
Take the time to reflect, for it is reflection that sets us free.
Free to learn, grow and continue on our journey toward fulfillment.
