Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!! This month's workout is about slowing down, a contrarian idea during the holidays, but one that is worth thinking about :-)
It's that time of year where Flames of Grace, my art & jewelry business is busy for the holidays. For those local to Boston, I am introducing my new jewelry collection at an upcoming Holiday Arts & Craft Show in Jamaica Plain, MA this Saturday, December 3rd from 11am - 5pm at the Eliot School of Fine and Applied Arts on the 2nd floor. Over 15 other artisans will be there as well. Details at http://www.flamesofgrace.com. If you cannot make it, feel free to call for an appointment.
Thank you in advance!

Slowing Down for the Holidays
As soon as Thanksgiving is over, it seems we go into high gear and sprint into the holidays. The race is on! The holiday gift shopping begins, we put up lights, get a tree or set up the Menorah, make travel plans, and get the dinner just right all while dealing with the snow, sleet and rain! It feels like there is so much to do and never enough time.
So, who says so? The reality is we create the frenzy. We create the rush into the season. We create the "to-do's" and then complain, get frustrated and feel worn down. By the time the holidays come, we need a vacation after the vacation! Sound familiar? Well, this month, it could actually be different...if you say so!
What's the most important thing about the holidays? Is it being with friends and family? Is it about giving of oneself and appreciating one another? Is it being grateful for what you have? It is helping someone in need? Is it making your home feel cozy and taking in the scent of pine in the air? Is it going to mass or temple? Whatever it is for you, take the time to honor that and let that be the most important thing you focus your energy on this season.
Slowing down during the holidays is about choosing to do what is most important to you. When you do that, all the other things fall away, become less important and surprisingly, they really do take care of themselves...or not. Regardless, they are not as important. Slowing down for the holidays is no different than slowing down in your life. It's about living from your heart, not driving with your head, by guilt, feeling bad or doing things just because you always have.
This season, take a weekend day and instead of shopping for gifts, give the gift of time with your family and friends. Go out and get a tree together and decorate it. Instead of buying a gift, consider making a donation as a gift on behalf of someone you love and donate an organization or individual in need. Bake or make your gifts as a handmade gift means so much more.
With so much tragedy, natural disasters, war and conflict in our country, I ask you this season to consider slowing down and focus only on what really means the most to you. When you do that, you truly give a gift that keeps on giving.
Cheers,
Jean M. DiGiovanna

- When you think of the holiday season, in your heart of hearts, what is most important to you?
- What do you love about the holidays? What do you most dislike?
- Keeping in mind what is most important to you and what you most love, what is one action you will commit to this holiday season to slow down?
- Pick one or more things you dislike and focus on eliminating or minimizing those activities in your life this season.
- How will you hold yourself accountable for taking on these actions?
- Take on those actions for slowing down and notice what shifts take place.

Poem of the Month: Slowing Down
There comes a time when too much is too great for one's soul.
When too much is too great for one's physical body.
When too much is too great for one's mind.
When you feel this, slow down, for it is a signal
to breathe deeper, think clearer and listen to your heart.
It is a time to take on less and ask for more,
It is a time to honor what is important to you now more than ever before.
