Your Body is a Precious Vessel
As the colder season comes upon us and major holidays approach, it can often take a toll on our bodies. Sometimes we don’t even realize it until we hit a wall and it shuts down. This can also happen when we are caring for others or we are so engaged in something, we lose site of how we are doing and feeling. It is only when the activities end and our bodies have a chance to relax that we begin to feel the effects.

Have you ever experienced getting sick soon after you go on your vacation? Sounds counter-intuitive as vacations are supposed to be a time of relaxation and renewal. What actually happens is when our bodies have the chance to slow down, we begin to release that which has been building up inside for so long. This is when we get sick.

The human body is one of the most amazing vessels. With all of the organs, nerves, ligaments, muscles and bones, it’s amazing it all works together naturally. The body has the ability to heal, grow and develop and to reject what doesn’t work all on its own. We forget our bodies are wise. There is so much insight and knowledge our body holds and if we can begin to get in touch with that and honor what it needs when it needs it, we will be much healthier more of the time.

It is so easy to take our physical bodies for granted. The reality is we cannot do, be, give or have what we want if we do not care for our physical human vessel. For this is the most precious vessel there is. We truly cannot be there for someone else fully if we do not care for our own selves first.

As you move through the winter and the upcoming holidays, Take the time to stop and notice how your body is feeling and doing. What is it that aches, pains or feels draining? What is the ache, pain or fatigue telling me? What does my body most need right now? What do I most need right now? And, honor that. If you need to take a nap, do it. If you need to say no or decline an invitation you already said yes to, do it. If you need to ask for help, ask. If you need to take time alone for you, take it. DO NOT WAIT! When you listen to what your body needs in each moment, you will begin to feel an abundance of vitality, energy and aliveness in your life. And, your body will thank you for it!

Cheers,
Jean M. DiGiovanna

Monthly Workout: Your Body is a Precious Vessel
Take on the following questions and process below for this month’s workout:
  1. Take a moment and find a quiet place and sit undisturbed. Now, scan your body from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet. Notice what you feel as you scan your body. What areas feel tight, strained or fatigued? As you scan your body, take a mental note of the areas that are not feeling good.
  2. Take the first area you noticed that was tight or otherwise not feeling well. If you were to talk to that area of your body, what message does it have to tell you? What does this area want you to know?
  3. What does your body need right now? What do you need right now?
  4. Honor your answer and follow its lead. Do not delay, for your body knows. Although the wisdom may not always be something you want to hear, continue to honor it. Sometimes we have to do the hard thing to be able to move through stuck pain in our bodies.
  5. Repeat steps 2-4 for other areas of your body that are not feeling well.
I look forward to hearing what you experience! (please e-mail me at jdigi@thinkpeople.com)

Your Body is a Precious Vessel

We often neglect that which we live with everyday.
We are so used to it, we stop listening to what it has to say.
I am referring to your body, the most precious vessel you own.
The one you came into this world in, and will leave having grown.

It has wisdom and insight beyond what you think you know.
But you will not be able to access it unless you listen and are open to grow.
Take the time to hear what your body has to say.
Honor it in that moment; do not delay.
